New project for Orlando! Movie Maze reports the following (this is a translation of the German article):
Molina, Bloom and Hawkins educate themselves
Director Lone Scherfig (Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself) could not only win for her drama An Education Peter Sarsgaard (Elegy), Carey Mulligan (When Did You Last See Your Father?), Rosamund Pike, Olivia Williams and Oscar winner Emma Thompson (Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix). But also Alfred Molina (Silk), Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean - At world's end) and Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) have committed to the project.
The script of bestseller author Nick Hornby tells the story of a young teenager, at the beginning of the 60ies in London. Jenny (Mulligan) is about to become an adult. She meets the a lot older (Sarsgaard), who introduces her into the fine society. There she meets the charismatic business man Danny (Bloom) and his beautiful, but mentally challenged girlfriend Helen(Pike).
Just when Jenny's dream of Oxford is in reach it seems as if David has his own plans with Jenny, which don't fit to her.
Shooting begins next month in London. Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey work for the production. ~posted by Stephanie at 09:29 AM CET

Orlando is named as one of the presenters at this year's BAFTA Awards which take place on February 10th. BBC One will air the awards live. I also shall be flying over and try my luck with taking pictures.
On a side note Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley will also attend as nominees and Sir Ian McKellen will present an award.

Aliya was so nice to let me know that Orlando indeed appears in the extras for Knocked Up. He's doing a cameo very much like he did in his episode of Extras (the Ricky Gervais TV series) and it's hilarious! You can find the clip on YouTube. ~posted by Stephanie at 09:01 AM CET

I just received one of those advertising emails for new DVDs and was kind of surprised to read Orlando Bloom besides a DVD called Knocked up. It's a 2-DVD set and apparently there is a special featurette called on the search of Ben Stone in which is said Orlando would appear. I think, if this is true, it's a featurette about the casting call? Anyways, release date is now in Germany.
More information about the film on imdb.com and on amazon.com.
Now, before you run and order, wait until I can confirm this. ~posted by Stephanie at 17:25 PM CET

PageSix.com has some more really cute pictures of Orlando's visit at Nepal: Thousands of miles away from the glare of Hollywood, Orlando Bloom acted just like anyone else as he arrived in India as an International Ambassador for UNICEF. He wore traditional flower garlands and a red 'tikka' mark on his forehead, which are the local symbols of welcome, as he visited children and women at the Sayapatri Community Organization in the Nepalese village of Dibyanagar.
Orlando was in Nepal to observe a UNICEF sponsored building, where child support activities are held and to meet with staff and health educators, as well as local community groups. But the trip wasn't all business as Orlando was powerless to resist playing with the town's adorable young children, who are now thriving thanks to all the amazing work UNICEF is doing in the region.

Orlando Bloom Soaks Up Nepal Trip reports the New York Observer:
While most of us were eating cold noodles and watching Project Runway, another major Hollywood actor joined the industry’s growing brigade of charitable stars.
Orlando Bloom recently took a four-day tour of Nepal on a UNICEF-supported visit, which took the 30-year-old actor to the impoverished western districts of Kaski and Chitwan.
"Another Hollywood movie star might feel strange in a remote and impoverished area of Nepal, but [he] seemed perfectly at ease," the humanitarian organization reports. Indeed, Mr. Bloom apparently took to certain Nepalese customs swimmingly. In one village, Mr. Bloom, who seemingly has no confirmed projects currently underway, had his forehead smeared with red "tika" by local women, who also offered him garlands of flowers to wear.
Later, when he visited another village, Pokhara, Mr. Bloom played a small role in a "mini-drama" that some three-dozen area children were recording for a radio program. The play was reportedly about "the plight faced by young girls in a hostel without a female warden." Mr. Bloom played a helpful fellow guest with advice to share. "Talk about your problems," he read from the script. "There’s no need to feel shy. It’s always good to talk about issues that concern you." ~posted by Stephanie at 16:16 PM CET

Apparently Orlando auditioned for the role of a photo journalist - a role he repeatedly had said in interviews he wanted to play. As Chinadaily reports he was beat by Daniel Radcliffe:
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has fought off competition from Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom to land the lead role in a new movie about a slain photo-journalist.
The 22-year-old will appear as photographer Dan Eldon in Journey, a film chronicling the civil war in Somalia. Eldon was one of four journalists stoned to death by a mob in the African country in 1993.
And Eldon's mother Kathy believes Radcliffe was the perfect choice to play her tragic son.
She says, "We resisted a lot of older actors because Dan was a boy emerging into manhood."
A compilation of Eldon's diaries - on which the film is based - has sold 200,000 copies since being published in 1997. ~posted by Stephanie at 13:23 PM CET

Jackson to produce Hobbit films! According to the BBC website Peter Jackson is to produce the two Hobbit films:
Peter Jackson, Oscar-winning director of the Lord of the Rings movies, has signed a deal to produce two films based on JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit.
The filmmaker had been in dispute with New Line Cinema over income generated by the first film in the Rings trilogy.
"I'm very pleased that we've been able to put our differences behind us," said Jackson. "We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth."
A director for the films - prequels to the Rings movies - has yet to be named.
The two Hobbit films will be filmed simultaneously, with their release planned for 2010 and 2011.
'New chapter'
Sir Ian McKellen has already expressed an interest in reprising his role as the wizard Gandalf.
In a statement, Jackson said the agreement enabled his Wingnut Films company to "begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line".
The three films in the Rings trilogy generated $3bn (£1.48bn) at the worldwide box office and won 17 Oscars.
New Line co-chairman Bob Shaye had previously said Jackson would never make The Hobbit "during my watch".

Possible new movie for Orlando? AP reports the following in their Yahoo news section:
HONG KONG - Famed Hong Kong director Johnnie To met with "The Lord of the Rings" star Orlando Bloom recently to discuss a possible collaboration, To's assistant said Thursday.
The assistant, Ding Yuin-shan, said the British actor arrived in Hong Kong Tuesday and left Thursday.
Bloom met with To several times during his stay and the two discussed shooting a movie together, Ding said, declining to identify any specific projects.
"They hope they can work on a project together," Ding said.
Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily Thursday ran a photo of the two together, which the newspaper said was taken when To accompanied Bloom back to his hotel.
Publicists for Bloom didn't immediately respond to an e-mail from The Associated Press seeking the actor's comment on the meetings with To.
To is known for his stylish gangster thrillers. His credits include "Election," "Election 2," "Exiled" and "Mad Detective," which was shortlisted for the top Golden Lion Prize at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year.
Bloom's credits include the "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy.

The proceeds of the purchase go at 100% to the EBMRF (remember to list the charity while doing the purchase during checkout). The card can be bought at Grandmagillie.com. The EBMRF (Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation) is a charity founded by Lynn Anderson (Piedmont, CA) and is a volunteer nonprofit foundation dedicated to the support of medical research of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), its causes, the development of successful treatments, and ultimately, its cure. ~posted by Stephanie at 16:04 PM CET
